Drumchapel and Clydebank Kayak Club is a community oriented paddlesports club based in Clydebank, just outside Glasgow.

We are one of Scotland’s most active clubs with a programme across multiple disciplines – Sea Kayaking, Whitewater Kayaking, Open Canoeing and Stand-up Paddle Boarding (SUP).   With our diverse membership, we welcome people from across the Glasgow area and further afield.

Signing Up:
Membership is open to anyone and renewed on an annual basis.  Instructions and guidance for joining the club (or any club event) can be found here.

Regular Sessions:
Through the summer, we have regular sessions on Tuesday evenings at Loch Lomond.   Loch Lomond provides a beautiful environment to clear the head on a midweek paddle, or to practice basics skills which might include rescues.

In the winter months we are based at Clydebank Swimming pool which offers a warm and safe venue to perfect support strokes, learn to kayak roll, or just stay active through the winter.

Trips:
In recent years we have run trips across Scotland and also some further afield, such as France and Norway.  Aside from Loch Lomond and the Clyde Estuary, we had many trips or expeditions to places such as Arran, Bute, Cumbria, Skye & Small Isles, Shiants, Shetland, St Kilda, Orkney, Anglesey, and all over the North & East Coasts.   River trips have included the Tay, Etive, Teith, Garry, Morriston, Awe, Tummel, Lenny, Spey, Orchy, and Findhorn amongst others.

Second Saturday Paddles
For Loch & Sea Paddlers we run a friendly/social trip every month on the Second Saturday of the month.  On even months (2,4,6,8, 10 and 12 = Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct & Dec) these are aimed at entry level kayakers who maybe have done a swimming pool or Loch Lomond beginners course, but may not have been on a trip or kayaked outdoors.  These are friendly trips to exchange ideas, and learn how to get on the water and have fun.  More info here >

MicroSessions
MicroSessions take place at Loch Lomond through the summer, and Clydebank Swimming Pool through the winter.  They take a focused look at one particular skill.  Find out more here >

Equipment:
We can provide all specialist equipment which is required to get out on the water, at very reasonable cost.   Members can access a wide range of sea kayaks, river boats, canoes and SUPs which are suitable for both adults and children.   More information about trip costs and equipment hire are listed here.

New Members 🙂

No matter what your current level, we welcome new members.  🙂   Some people join to make new friends and attend social events, whilst others join to get out for a quiet paddle surrounded by spectacular scenery.   Others wish to develop their skills and become more confident paddlers (or leaders).    Whatever your motivation, come along!

Learning and Development:
We go the extra distance to support paddlers learning development from complete beginners to advanced level.   The club is entirely run by volunteer coaches, helpers, trip leaders, and committee/club members.   We always welcome people who are happy to contribute and be part of the team.    DCKC survives on a pay-it-forward basis where skills are passed between club members and on to new members.

DCKC in the Community:
As a club we are actively involved at a community development level, working with young people from local youth and Sea Cadet clubs in the Clydebank area.    We are also active in supporting people form diverse communities, helping them to more easily access the sport and get out on the water.

Scottish Canoe Association:
The club is an affiliated member of the Scottish Canoe Association.   Members are encouraged to take part in the British Canoe Union Personal Performance Awards to develop their skills.
