Tuesday Evening Pool sessions (Autumn > Spring)

You can continue practising your skills at the pool sessions which run every Tuesday, from the start of September until the last week of April. Details and costs are on the club website / Calendar. These are informal sessions. Volunteer coaches are often available to help you develop your paddling further.

Tuesday Evening Loch Lomond sessions (Summer)

In spring, we leave the pool to go to Loch Lomond for outdoor sessions, meeting at the public slipway at Drumkinnon bay, Balloch. These are on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to around 9pm and start on the first week of May. The activities at the club include coached sessions or short evening trips or a combination of both. You can also have a go at trying different crafts including river kayak, sea kayak, open boat and SUP. Please check the calendar for information relating to specific events on Tuesdays. Boats and other equipment are available to borrow and fees are as for club trips

  • All Away days (Last Tuesday evening of each month through the summer) – The last Tuesday of each month through the summer (May, June, July, August) we change the venue for the regular Tuesday evening sessions. These are typically at one of the classic inland lochs around Glasgow – Loch Lomond form Luss, Lake of Menteith, Loch Ard, Loch Lomond from Balmaha. Info on Calendar.

ROOTS Sessions (Third Sunday of each month)

Reaching Out On To the Sea are sessions specially for people who may not have paddled much outdoors, or on the sea yet or to re-familiarise yourself with paddling. They are on the third Sunday of each month through the summer. They are trips which are around 12-15km and take things at a gentle pace to allow people to familiarise themselves with going on kayaking trips outdoors and on the sea. They are not coached per se but will offer some food for thought, and leaders are very wiling to answer questions.

ROOTS sessions will be in various venues within reach of Clydebank/Glasgow as a day trip. As with many of our excursions, as part of the trip, we need to transport the kayaks. This means you either need to have a car with roof-bars, or be willing to share transport with someone else who does. The club generally operates a car sharing policy to minimise impact and maximise fun!

For these you must contact the trip leader at least a week prior to the trip to register your interest.

SkillsSessions

SkillsSessions are run as a series of coached indidivual days (often on Loch Lomond in the Autumn, or Winter). They offer a deeper dive with a very experienced club coach to offer a more prolonger look at a concpt or interconnected series of skills. Details on Club Calendar

Introductory River Trip

Every so often there is a series of river trips which are great introduction to white-water kayaking. Details appear on the calendar.

Second Saturday Paddle (Second Saturday of each month)

On the Second Saturday of each month there’s a regular social paddle to an interesting loch, canal or coastline. These are typically Grade A trips of around 15-18 km in length [ for notes on the grades of Sea trips see this page ] . The location for these are scheduled on the club calendar

The Second Saturday paddles in the even months i.e. 2,4,6,8,10 – Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec – are slightly easier trips, so if you are new to kayaking you may* chose to go on one of these months first.

For Second Saturday trips, as with all Sea kayak trips, you must contact the trip leader at least a week prior to the trip to register your interest. This is an opportunity to work out if it’s the right level of paddle for you.

MicroSessions (first and third Tuesday of each month through-out year)

MicroSessions are short coached sessions which focus in one skill or area of knowledge. They are programmed on the club calendar. They can be for varying levels of expertise – information will generally indicate experience level they are aimed at. They tend to be run as part of a loch/pool session and are generally turn up on the night.

Pinkston

Pinkston Watersports is our local artificial white-water centre. There is a moving/ white-water course and a flat water basin.  Although most of the basin is flat, there is some faster flowing water at one end which is ideal to practise in to get used to moving water. These sessions are held every Thursday through the late spring to autumn and start at 8pm until 9.30pm. There is a small number of boats stored at Pinkston. If you are interested tin coming along to one of these then get in touch with the membership secretary. Every so often there is a come and try event at Pinkston as well a ‘ Pinkston Pool Partyyyy!!!!’ every year. These events are great for coming along for a first time.

SUP

The club has a number of SUPS. On evenings through the summer there are a range of taster sessions to come and try Supping. Check the Calendar for details.

Sea trips, Weekends and Expeditions

Why we kayak! The club runs many trips ranging from beginner to advanced multi-day trips. All trips run by the club are published on the club calendar.  Please get in touch with the trip leader if you are interested in attending a trip, as they will need to check that the trip is suitable for your skill level. Please also be aware that space may be limited. If you don’t have your own boat and equipment, you can borrow a club boat and kit, but may need to be able to transport the boat (i.e. to have a vehicle with roof bars).
