ABOUT MICROSESSIONS

MicroSessions piggy back onto the clubs regular Tuesday night sessions at Loch Lomond / Clydebank Swimming Pool and Thursday’s at Pinkston and run concurrently to whatever other trips and sessions are happening that evening. There is no pre-requisite to join a MicroSession – you may just want to go for a trip /journey or play about in a rapid at Pinkston! The Micro Sessions are not of a predefined length – if they happen to finish early the group may go for a social paddle afterwards.

The same fees and equipment hire arrangements apply for usual club nights. Club equipment may be used for the MicroSessions, which will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Just turn up on the night to join in (you do not need to contact the session leader), but be aware the session leader, while always being inclusive as possible, has discretion to pick the group based on members having relevant experience and equipment etc. You should be aware sessions may be limited to a group of a certain size …in which case it will be first come first served.  This is because that particular skill may be difficult or unsafe to learn with a group bigger than ‘X’ size. There will be other options for anyone who should not make it into a micro session group however.

For outdoor sessions towards the start of the summer MicroSessions will more commonly look at early stage skills and knowledge, with more advanced sessions towards the end of the year.

Please note: MicroSessions are lead or facilitated by club members who are giving up their time voluntarily. They themselves may be developing their teaching ideas and coaching style. For everyone’s benefit, please come along with a positive mental attitude and willing to get stuck in to get the best from sessions.

The Micro Sessions can either be ‘Lead’ or ‘Facilitated’. Lead sessions will generally be an opportunity for an experienced DCKC Kayaker/Canoeist/SUPer to offer their experience on a topic, with opportunity for others to contribute. A facilitated session will offer peer paddlers a chance to practise and offer support to each other, but will be facilitated/co-ordinated by someone.

Leading, Assisting & Upcoming Micro session Ideas

Anyone looking to lead or coach sessions in the future should offer their support to a Micro Session Leader / Facilitator as an assistant. This offers the opportunity for Assistants to shadow Leaders or help co-deliver a Micro Session. In this way we are looking to form coaching partnerships as an ongoing form of mentoring.

DCKC’s MicroSessions are a focused look at one particular skill. They are a great opportunity to really hone in on one specific area of knowledge or competence.
