BCU Tests and Awards

DCKC offers its members the chance to practice towards a range of British canoe Union (BCU) awards. These are normally called the star awards, ranging from an introduction at 1 star, progressing through 2 star (in canoe AND kayak), to 3 star in a specific discipline (e.g. sea kayaking, river canoeing or canadian canoeing). 4 star and 5 star are considered to be “Leadership Awards” the ability to look after yourself and others.

In the club we can develop people up to being ready for 3 star assessment and there are a number of providers who offer 3 star assessment, and 4 or 5 star training and assessment. Other awards that support the star awards include the one day Foundation Safety and Rescue Test (FSRT) which is highly recommended.
