2020 Kayaking Introduction Courses

New for 2020, DCKC are running a number of courses designed to introduce novices to a range of skills and knowledge required to begin kayaking. The sessions will cover safety, paddle strokes, equipment, capsizing etc. Optional British Canoeing Paddle Discover Award assessment.


Drumkinnon Bay, Balloch

Beginner Kayaking Course (Starts Saturday 17th October 2020)

Starting Saturday 17th October each Saturday morning for four weeks.

10.00am to 12.30pm approx. (may be the option for an afternoon paddle depending on weather and coach availability)


You would be 10years or over and be able to swim 25 metres.  (Note: Under 10s can join the club, please contact us for details.)


Please make sure that you read through the club’s Covid-19 procedures. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND ANY CLUB EVENT IF YOU HAVE COVID-19 SYMPTOMS OR HAVE BEEN ASKED TO SELF-ISOLATE.

Clothing and Equipment

Kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet and spray deck will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own if you have this equipment. Wetsuit and cagoules may also be borrowed, if needed.

Loch: Neoprene shoes/wet-suit boots (not trainers!), lightweight windproof jacket, tracksuit or thermal trousers. Thermal t-shirt, woolly jumper or fleece. YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED TO GET WET IN THESE CLOTHES. Towel and change of clothes. Hot drink and lunch is advisable.


There is access to a toilet at each venue used. A face mask may however be required. 

Qualified Kayaking Coaches

All coaches will be qualified to at least Paddlesport Instructor level.

Beginner Kayaker Course Cost

Individual: £50. This includes membership of DCKC until September 2021, coaching and use of equipment during the course. Membership will allow you to join other club events. 

Family £80 (up to 2 adults and 2 children – additional family members attending the course £10 each).

Loan of kit: Due to Covid-19, it would be desirable to issue students with the loan of any soft kit needed (wetsuit, cagoule, spraydeck, BA). We would however ask for a deposit of £50 if kit is to be loaned for the course, which would be refunded once the kit is returned.
