2020 Kayaking Introduction Courses

New for 2020, DCKC are running a number of courses designed to introduce novices to a range of skills and knowledge required to begin kayaking. The sessions will cover safety, paddle strokes, equipment, capsizing etc. Optional British Canoeing Paddle Discover Award assessment.

VENUES

March and April 2020 – Clydebank Leisure Centre

May to August – Balloch, Loch Lomond (Option to meet at Clydebank Kayak store)

1st Beginner Kayaking Course (Starts Tuesday 3rd March 2020)

 Starting Tuesday 3rd March, each Tuesdays evenings for six weeks:  3rd/10th/17th/24th/31st March and 7th April.  PLUS 2 outdoor sessions Sunday 5th April * and Sunday 18th April *

2nd Beginner Kayaking Course (Starts Tuesday 21st April 2020)

Starting Tuesday 21st April each Tuesday evening for six weeks. Start with 2 sessions in the the Pool then 4 sessions at Loch Lomond: : 21st and 28th April in the Pool and then 5th/12th/19th/26th May. PLUS 2 outdoor sessions (Saturday/Sunday, dates to be confirmed)

* Attendance at alternative a regular club day paddle can be arranged if you are not able to make this date.

TIMES
Pool: 6.45pm to 8.15 pm approx.

Loch: 6.15pm (Clydebank) or 6.45pm (Balloch) to 9pm (Balloch)

ABILITY
You would be 10years or over and be able to swim 25 metres.  (Note: Under 10s can join the club, please contact us for details.)

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT

Kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet and spray deck will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own if you have this equipment.

Pool: Swimming trunks / Costume and t-shirt.

Loch: Neoprene shoes/wet-suit boots (not trainers!), lightweight windproof jacket, tracksuit or thermal trousers (or shorts if warm). Thermal t-shirt, woolly jumper or fleece. YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED TO GET WET IN THESE CLOTHES. Towel and change of clothes.

FACILITIES

There is access to a toilet at each venue used. 

QUALIFIED KAYAKING COACHES

For the course starting Tuesday 3rd March coaches will Sandy Johnston (UKCC L3 Coach), Marcus Wheel and Bev Ouzman (Padldesport Instructors). (In case of illness an alternative coach will be provided).

BEGINNER KAYAKING COURSE COST

Individual: £50. This includes membership of DCKC until September 2020, Pool fees, coaching and use of equipment during the course. Membership will allow you to join other club events. 

Family £80 (up to 2 adults and 2 children – additional family members attending the course £10 each).
