The information below is an example of past spring/summer courses.

EXAMPLE ONLY: 2021 Kayaking Introduction Courses

DCKC run a number of courses designed to introduce novices to a range of skills and knowledge required to begin kayaking. The sessions will cover safety, paddle strokes, equipment, capsizing etc. The he course will be a basic introduction to kayaking, and run over 2 evenings.

Venue

Drumkinnon Bay, Balloch, meeting at 6.30pm with the aim of being on the water by 7pm.

Introduction to Kayaking Course

Two consecutive weeks on a Tuesday evening. Please contact us for course dates.

Times

6.30pm to 9pm approx.

Ability

You would be 10 years or over and be able to swim 25 metres.  (Note: Under 10s can join the club, please contact us for details.) Children under 18 years would need to be accompanied by a parent / guardian.

Covid-19

Please make sure that you read through the club’s Covid-19 procedures. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND ANY CLUB EVENT IF YOU HAVE COVID-19 SYMPTOMS OR HAVE BEEN ASKED TO SELF-ISOLATE.

Clothing and Equipment

Kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet and spray deck will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own if you have this equipment. Wetsuits of standard adult sizes and cagoules may also be borrowed, if needed.

Loch: Neoprene shoes/wet-suit boots (not trainers!), lightweight windproof jacket, tracksuit or thermal trousers. Thermal t-shirt, woolly jumper or fleece. YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED TO GET WET IN THESE CLOTHES. Towel and change of clothes. Hot drink and/or snack is advisable.

Facilities

There is access to a toilet at the start of the session only. A face mask may however be required. 

Qualified Kayaking Coaches

All coaches will be qualified to at least Paddlesport Instructor level.

Beginner Kayaker Course Cost

Individual: £XX. There is no requirement to join the club to attend the beginner course. If you want to continue paddling with us after the course, you would need to join the club and pay the membership fee.
