Although sheltered paddle there is some tidal flows.  For this reason it is technically an easy Grade B sea kayak trip.  Please make sure to match the trip to the experience level of the group.  

Weather Considerations

In windy conditions some clapotis may be experienced around the sugar boat.

Route Description

Head along the shore past Helensburgh heading SE for 3.5kms to a pier. Turn on bearing of 225 for 2kms to reach Sugar Boat. Head on bearing of 285 towards tallest radio mast on Roseneath Peninsula to reach Meiklecross Bay which offers easy beach landing for lunch. Return to start point passing Roseneath Point and Culwatty Bay before crossing back across Gare Loch keeping an eye out for vessels heading up and down the lock.
