All Away Lake of Menteith!
Lake of Menteith is Scotland’s only lake! It is also as historic as it is beautiful. Amongst many reasons why it is of historical significance, the Priory on the Lake’s Inchmahome Island, served as a refuge to a four year old Mary Queen of Scots. Particularly on a misty day it’s impossible not to feel the history
Because the lake is so shallow, it warms up quickly and is perhaps the best place to learn to kayak roll outdoors! It’s shallowness also makes it very quick to freeze over in the winter and historically there has been a famous but occasional Curling tournament held on the Lake known as ‘The Bonspiel’.
Note: the Priory on Inchmahome Island has recently reopened seasonally, from April to October 10am to 3pm each day. Historic Scotland has started to attempt to charge anyone who lands on Inchmahome Island during these times – a policy that does not seem either welcoming nor sustainable! Visiting the island out-with these these times should be fine however.

Meeting points:
You can meet us at one of two places:-
|
1. If you have your own transport and equipment you can meet us at the Lake of Menteith Public Car Park. The launch point is very near the car park but does involve crossing the road. Despite the road being quiet please take care when crossing with kayaks/canoes/SUPS. We are aiming to be on the water as close to 7.15pm as possible, although it may be a little after this. MEETING POINT WHAT THREE WORDS ///CHIMP.WELFARE.GALLOPING |
| 2. If you wish to borrow a kayak/Canoe/SUP and/or equipment (paddle, wetsuite, Spray Deck, Buoyancy Aid) from the club then meet at the club container at Miller street, Clydebank. Aim to be here at close to 6:00pm as you can. We aim to leave as close to 6:15 as we can. |
*Please note: Because we are never sure of exact numbers coming we can’t guarantee everyone will get the craft – kayak/Canoe or Sup – of their choice (We don’t pre-book these out so that people can turn up informally on the evening). While we do have a good range and number of boats, and generally there are enough of each type boat, you should be prepared to try something else in the unlikely event you don’t get your first choice. This might offer an opportunity to try something new – a SUP or shorter kayak for example.
