Just a quick reminder that we move to Loch Lomond for the first Tuesday of May, leaving the warmth of the pool for the great outdoors. The sessions are still suitable for all, from absolute beginner to experts. More info on the calendar.... but please remember- - we meet at the club outdoor container - not the pool container! : Club Locations - you are likely to be able to choose whether to paddle canoe, kayak or sea kayak, although this may depend on your own abilities, the group sizes on the night and the weather conditions. There is always somewhere suitable (except for tropical lightning storms! ) - although the club has a small trailer that can take up to 4 canoes and 6 kayaks, cars with roof racks will be needed to transport all the boats needed. - later on in the year we may venture to the River Clyde, Lake of Menteith, Loch Ard, a gorge walk or more. Great news We recently received confimation that our application to the 2014 Communities lottery fund has been successful! This application was to help us develop the options in the club for young (and not so young) paddlers by purchasing some boats suitable for canoe  polo and also to help with the training costs of more club coaches.  We have been awarded £2000 to help with this, and with the forms safely returned we should be able to start choosing the new boats and also finding suitable club members who would like to add some coaching to their skills soon. Possible new boat is a  revenge which will be suitable for use in the pool and also on flat water outside. We have been hard at work trying to get some grant support for the club to help keep up with how busy we are and have had a couple of great successes! The Sports Council for Glasgow have awarded us £360 to help fund the purchase of a new Karnali kayak for the pool and also flatwater outdoors. The Karnali is the more up to date version of the CK320 that fits the larger paddlers in the club. Thank you to the Sports Council for this help - much appreciated. (The boat is on order!) West Dumbartonshire Council though their "Sustainable Sport, Stong Futures" project have offered the club funding to help us set up a new section in the club. We wrote a proposal to start a competition section for our junior members, intially focussed on polo along with slalom and sprint. Dear all, DCKC has grown! Busy pool sessions, lots of trips, better equipment, better coaching, lots of members out enjoying their own paddling, improving their own skills and also helping out other members. We have a pretty full program in mind for 2013 and as well as developing individual paddling and group skills with courses such as 2,3,4 star courses we are also keen to encourage anyone with an inclination to helping others to consider doing a coaching course - if you have helped out at sessions, given a fellow paddler a bit of advice or would like youth members to come on your “A” trip then a coaching qualification could be just the thing. So what’s involved: Time, the Level 1 course is a 4 day course… but it should be fun! Money – but not lots. We submitted the following article to SCA Paddler Magazine. Our hope is it will be published in the January edition along with some photos of the event. Paddle Festival 9th September 2012. Photos On Sunday 9th September 2012 Drumchapel & Clydebank Kayak Club held a Paddle Festival at The Boat House Pier shore in Balloch Castel Park on the Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond. The Festival was part of “Get Active Loch Lomond” & West Dunbartonshire Councils “The Great Outdoors Festivals” What an amazing day, the weather was good and the public response, especially from kids was beyond our expectations. They just kept coming! All boats were on the water the whole day which was very challenging for all our coaches/water safety cover, catering and changing room staff. Fitting in a cup of tea a hotdog or a pee were major challenges! In the last committee meeting Bill and Shona explained they were not going to stand for reelection as Treasurer and Chairman for 2012/13. They have both done a fantastic job, helping the club have a happy motivated committee, lots of events, money to provide excellent equipment and many new members. A big weekend away, similar to last years very successful trip so hopefully we will see everyone there! Paddling On the saturday and sunday there will be a choice of paddling: river trip, sea trip or loch trip for canoe or kayak so all needs should be catered for. Accomodation is in Lochawe Village Hall, sleeping on thermarests, camp beds and sleeping baegs (with Barry and the snorers in the back room and we will try to fit the children into the comfort of graham's cottage as needed.
