SUMMARY:Pinkston DCKC Sessions 2025
DESCRIPTION:Pinkston Watersports is an artificial white water course in the outskirts of Glasgow.   The club have a regular Thursday night slot which runs from 8pm to 9.30pm.  It is a great place to learn the basics of paddling in moving water or to develop and hone river or sea skills. \nWe are also able to access the “basin” (a flat water section) at 7.30pm to warm up.     \nWe have a dedicated and trained member who ensures safety throughout the evening and adjusts the pumps to the required flow.   We normally vary the number of pumps during the session depending on the group. We mainly run on 2 pumps but may switch to 1 pump for those new to moving water or to 3 pumps for the more adventurous.    \nThere are normally a range of experienced paddlers or coaches around to offer informal advice but we also run specific coached sessions too.  Contact us on pinkston@dckc.co.uk to find out more.  \nWe have a number of boats stored at Pinkston which cater for all sizes as well as wetsuits\, paddlers\, helmets etc. Price £10 / (DCKC Members Under 18s £5) \nMonklands Canoe Club \nThe session is run together with the lovely people from Monklands Canoe Club. \nGuest Paddlers from SCA Clubs and SCA Members\nWe are able to offer guest spaces to members of SCA affiliated clubs (or an SCA member). SUMMARY:Isle of Gigha Bank holiday adventure
DESCRIPTION:Route Description  \nGigha is a beautiful self-sustaining Island on the Kintyre Coast\, it offers beautiful blue seas\, sandy beaches and plenty of wildlife including a population of wild goats on Cara.  The plan would be to leave from Tayinloan Ferry port on the Friday and cross to Gigha (Ferry across may be preferred depending on weather and group choice) Two nights wild camping required with the fall back of utilising the campsite on Gigha as a backup plan. \nDay 1 Travelling down the East Side of Gigha and exploring the isle of Cara for an overnight camping on a beautiful\, sheltered beach \nDay 2 paddling around the South of Cara and the West side of Gigha to set up camp on the beautiful twin beaches on the NW of Gigha \n This is a Grade A/B \nPossible 3km crossing and small tidal considerations\,   the West side of Gigha can be  exposed to  Westerly winds \n Distance total trip distance 26 km \nFeel free to call me for more info or drop me an email \nCelia 07762709027\, or ceciliagray@btinternet.com

DESCRIPTION:DCKC Pool sessions \nOur swimming pool sessions happen at Clydebank Swimming Pool [ Google maps link ] every Tuesday evening from September to the end of April.  Generally these are informal sessions which offer the opportunity to practise techniques and get used to being in a kayak.  With the benefit of being in warm/heated water\, it’s the perfect opportunity to practise support strokes\, capsize procedures\, kayak rolling\, balance exercises\, and even just getting in and out of a kayak. \nPool session times \n7.30 to 9pm.** \nWhat to bring:-\nA towel\nSwimming costume\nMany also choose to bring a thin thermal or t-shirt + Swimming shorts (as spend a lot of time out of the water)\nSwimming googles\nFee for swimming pool\nOptional (you can also bring if you wish – there is no requirement to bring these)\nNeoprene Spray-deck\nYour own paddle\n\nWhat we provide\nKayaks (general purpose plastic & kayak polo style)\nPaddles\nNylon Spray-decks\n\nNOTES: \n– This is a community even run by volunteers.  Please come along expecting to help manoeuvring kayaks and equipment in and out of the pool and into storage.  If you are unsure how to help please ask someone   \n– When you arrive at the pool there is no need to pay at the front desk – please continue through the changing area\, get changed and payment can be made in cash at the poolside.  The pool session prices are shown here. \n– In the kayak store on the far bank of the pool\, the kayaks should be emptied of water and must be stored nose down (drain bung upwards) so that any remaining/residual water does not run out onto the store floor.   \n– If the pool is busy (more people than boats) we may split the session in 2 or just ask people to work in pairs.\n\n**Unfortunately COVID impacts at the Leisure Centre mean we are not back to our regular 2 hour sessions but rather have a 90 minutes session.

DESCRIPTION:Pinkston Watersports is an artificial white water course in the outskirts of Glasgow.   The club have a regular Thursday night slot which runs from 8pm to 9.30pm.  It is a great place to learn the basics of paddling in moving water or to develop and hone river or sea skills. \nWe are also able to access the “basin” (a flat water section) at 7.30pm to warm up.     \nWe have a dedicated and trained member who ensures safety throughout the evening and adjusts the pumps to the required flow.   We normally vary the number of pumps during the session depending on the group. We mainly run on 2 pumps but may switch to 1 pump for those new to moving water or to 3 pumps for the more adventurous.    \nThere are normally a range of experienced paddlers or coaches around to offer informal advice but we also run specific coached sessions too.  Contact us on pinkston@dckc.co.uk to find out more.  \nWe have a number of boats stored at Pinkston which cater for all sizes as well as wetsuits\, paddlers\, helmets etc. Price £10 / (DCKC Members Under 18s £5) \nMonklands Canoe Club \nThe session is run together with the lovely people from Monklands Canoe Club. \nGuest Paddlers from SCA Clubs and SCA Members\nWe are able to offer guest spaces to members of SCA affiliated clubs (or an SCA member).
