SUMMARY:Spring River Paddling Adventure - A four day expedition for kayakers and open boaters on one of Scotland's classic tours .
DESCRIPTION:The choice of route for this expedition will depend on the abilities and aspirations of the kayakers/boaters taking part. It will be an expedition where we will paddle during the day\, and normally camp overnight with the group taking part aiming to be self-sufficient throughout. (That won’t preclude the occasional stop for food\, provisions or refreshments!) \nPossible river venues include the Tay\, the Tweed\, the Spey\, a Teviot/Tweed trip or the Dee. Other venues could involve a cross-Scotland trip whether by canal (Great Glen or Forth and Clyde/Union Canal) or by linking lochs and rivers. The plan is to provide an adventure suitable for all participants and keep the costs down. \nPlease contact Sandy on sandy.johnston@sky.com if you are interested so that we can arrange a pre-expedition planning meeting in March 2024. \nBeginners to river kayak or open canoe can take advantage of the series of river trips in Feb-Mar 2024 to obtain the skills for this type of trip.

SUMMARY:(Easter Egg) ROLL ON THE PAPS
DESCRIPTION:To mark the start of the CalMac summer timetable and the summer paddling season\, we’ll aim to make good use of weather and tides with a trip to Jura on the Easter weekend.  We will aim to run this Friday (or perhaps thursday evening) > Monday. This will offer some scope for altering plans to suite the conditions.  We hope to stay at Cruib Lodge (pictured) and climb up the Paps of Jura (to roll some Easter eggs) so some hill fitness is advised and egg painting skills .  Conditions dependant this can be run as a grade B trip\, or a C trip. Numbers dependant\, it may be ok to wait to see which of these plans emerge according to forecasts to make a decision in the week prior.   Interest should be registered early for this trip.\n\nPlease note: this trip has no plan B or plan C option planned in the event of poor weather\, so please make your own personal plans for this eventuality.\n\nTrip Leader: Misha\nAssistant Leader: TBC\n\nPlease register interest with Misha and include some info about your experience level if you are new to the group.  We will do everything we can to include people where we can.

SUMMARY:The Oa of Islay (3 potential dates)
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps the finest sea kayak ‘day trip’ from Glasgow.  A grade C paddle that has been programmed across three separate Fridays to allow any one of these days to be selected in the days prior with a good forecast.  Note there will be no Plan B or Cs so make your own alternative plans if it does not run. \nLogistically this a relatively ambitious plan which involves making the ferry from Kennacraig at 7am and then again at Port Ellen at 5pm for the return journey to back on Friday evening for the weekend.  It also requires good conditions (hence the programmed three dates) and tidal considerations to work (given the Mull (fore-head) of Oa itself can see a 5-6kt spring rate (localised).  This is programmed for late winter early spring\, and so particular attention should be paid to being properly equipped. \nNotes: \n\nWe will be aiming to take just enough transport over to Islay to carry all the kayaks and no more.  As always vehicles which can take more than two kayaks will be extremely useful.\nMondays\, Thursdays and Fridays are the only times that work for this trip in terms of Ferry times.  Tidal considerations\nThe Jan > March Kennacraig > Port Ellen Calmac timetable has not bene published yet – this trip has been planned on the basis the Friday ferries will continue as the previous winter timetable months – something which will need to be confirmed.\n\n

SUMMARY:Introductory Sunday River Trips 11 February to 10 March 2024
DESCRIPTION:We are running a series of introductory river trips in February and March 2024 to give club members the opportunity to experience this exciting and interesting branch of paddling. These trips will take place on easy white water and are aimed at club members with little or no experience of paddling rivers. They are open to kayakers and canoeists who will be coached throughout the day allowing the acquisition of new skills in a suitable environment for beginners. Safety\, fun and learning will be the priorities for these trips with each date being ‘stand-alone’ so don’t feel that you have to commit to the whole series. Come along and try something new where you can acquire skills that will improve your paddling in other paddlesport disciplines.
