Hebrides (and beyond?)
The DCKC 2020 sea paddling adventure week will be based aboard the MV Cuma, and provide the opportunity for paddling in the Hebrides plus possibly – with a good weather window – the Monarch Isles or even (remote chance, so just whisper it!) St Kilda. As we will have the support of the MV Cuma available, this trip will allow us to accommodate a broader range of paddling ability within the group, and the organizing committee is keen to encourage improver sea paddlers to consider putting their names forward for the trip.
As we will be chartering the MV Cuma, the cost of the adventure will be £865 – this includes 6 days of accommodation and all food on board. This cost does not include any alcohol (though you are welcome to bring your own), the cost of travel to Lewis or any additional accommodation you may want for that journey. The accommodation on the MV Cuma is in twin-berth cabins (no single cabins available), so everyone on the trip will be required to share. Additionally, all group members will need to be comfortable with the risk of potentially being a very significant distance from any medical assistance – or even wifi!
There are 12 berths available and – obviously – we do not have the ability to expand the numbers of participants in any way.
A deposit of £300 will be required by 1 September 2019, with the balance due in June/early July 2020.
At this stage we are inviting club members who are / may be interested in taking part on the trip to apply for a space. (Please do not send any money until your space is confirmed). We are deliberately not allocating places on a “first-come/first-served” basis in order to allow more folk to consider applying for the trip and to have time to ask questions.
The deadline for applying for a place on the trip is: 28 August 2019 and club members who are interested in securing a berth should send their names to Bev (via the membership“at”dckc.co.uk email address).
In the event that the trip is over-subscribed, we will allocate places for this first MV Cuma trip as follows:
- Trip organizing committee (Misha, Graham, Bev).
- Club members who currently support the club through significant/regular contributions as volunteers (club committee / coaches / other regular volunteering roles).
- Club members who currently regularly participate in club trips.
- The “paddle-ability” balance of the group will also be considered by the trip leaders – as with any other club trip – and the trip leaders’ decision in this regard is final.
- We will also need to have some cognizance of the need for club members to share accommodation in terms of M/F split.
Finally, if two or more members are “equal” in respect of the above – names will be randomly selected (drawn from a hat / selected by coin toss).
If finding the £300 deposit at short notice is a problem, please contact the trip administrator, Bev, (in confidence) to discuss options for a payment plan.
Any questions – please just ask one of the trip organizing committee:
Misha – Trip Leader
Graham – Assistant Trip Leader
Bev – Administrator
