Club Evening Session – Loch Lomond

 The regular club evening session is Tuesday evening at Loch Lomond. Meet at the outdoor store from 6.15 trying to be away just after 6.30pm. If you have your own boat and kit then feel free to meet at Drumkinnon Bay. We aim to be back at the Outdoor store just after 9pm. Depending on numbers there may be groups off for a sea paddle, some sea kayak training or beginner training close to the shore or some games of polo (or all three). The Duncan Mills Slipway building has toilets and showers. If you have a roofrack please bring it with you to carry your canoe or kayak.

Please note that some evenings there may be alternative trips such as sea or river trips. Please contact the organisor if you wish to go on an alternative trip.

Foundation Safety and Rescue Training Course @ Club Container

There are only six places available for this course. This is the foundation rescue skills course for canoeing and kayaking. All other courses are built on the skills that you learn in this British Canoe Union course.

This course is designed for all paddlers irrespective of craft. The objective is to teach simple and safe skills that can be applied appropriately across a variety of paddlesport craft including kayaks and canoes.  These skills will then form the basis of all safety and rescue training throughout the BCU Scheme.

The course aims to provide the student with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely in a sheltered water environment and to be able to deal with common emergencies.

The course content is as follows:

1. General theory and planning a. Safety b. Rescue protocols

2. Bank-based rescues a. Coach a swimmer to shore b. Rescue a swimmer with a rigid aid c. Rescue a swimmer using a throw line

3. Boat-based rescues a. Rescue a swimmer from the water b. Rescue a capsized paddler using a deep water rescue c. Rescue an unconscious or entrapped paddler from their boat d. Use of towlines e. Self-rescue f. All-in rescue

4. Scenarios

This is a get wet course. A certificate is provided and this course is a prerequisite for future development, it will also make you a safer paddler!

Skills Session at Loch Lomond 2017 @ Loch Lomond

 A coached session at Loch Lomond, with the chance to learn new skills or practice with one or more of the clubs coaches, whether sea, flat water or open canoe. This can be aimed at a star award or just improving general skills, knowledge and experience. It is open to all skill levels.

Although Graham is the contact (grahammswanson@gmail.com), the coaches on the day will vary, and may be several available!

Meet at the Millar Street Store at 10am and bring some lunch and a hot drink.

Loch Lomond – Rescue Boating, Skills Session and BBQ Trip @ Loch Lomond
Jul 29 @ 8:30 am – 5:30 pm

A big day out, providing rescue cover for the Loch Triathlon Club annual race (the tri club are out partners in the project for a store and changing rooms at Balloch), with some coached skills practice on the loch and then an afternoon paddle on Loch Lomond with a BBQ and top coaching tips.

Loch Achray and Venachar

A beautiful paddle between two Lochs with a very gentle Grade 1 river linking the two Lochs.  This trip is suitable for Open Canoes and River Kayaks. Meeting times at the container is 9 am or 10:30 am at Loch Achary.
